A tooth adjustment procedure performed on stone casts of the teeth ("diagnostic casts") before they are performed on a patient's teeth. Using diagnostic casts allows the dentist to learn how much tooth structure would need to be altered in order to produce a correct bite relationship between the upper and lower teeth, and whether another option (such as moving the teeth orthodontically) would be preferable to adjusting the biting surfaces of the teeth with a dental drill.

A cast of this patient's teeth was painted red for contrast, in order to better visualize how much tooth structure would need to be removed in an actual occlusal equilibration.
